Rockwall sits on some of the most active clay in North Texas, and pools there move. Of everywhere we work, Rockwall is where we most often find that the real problem isn't the surface at all; it's a structural crack underneath it. Blackland Prairie clay is the whole story. The soil under Rockwall swells when it's wet and shrinks hard when it dries. Through a wet spring into one of our summers, the ground under a pool doesn't sit still, and it doesn't move evenly. One end of a shell can sit in damp soil while the other end is in ground that has pulled away from it entirely. A rigid gunite shell and moving ground eventually disagree. Slope makes it worse, and Rockwall has slope. The lots running down toward Lake Ray Hubbard (Chandlers Landing, The Shores and the waterfront streets around them) combine that expansive clay with a grade. Water moves through the soil instead of sitting evenly in it, so the swell-and-shrink cycle is unbalanced across the length of the pool. That's the combination that turns a hairline into a structural crack over a few dry summers.

"We are so pleased with Gus and his team. Our pool renovation went smoothly and without any issues…Under promised and over delivered!"
It depends which kind. Crazing, a fine spiderweb of lines with no direction, is cosmetic. A crack that runs in one direction, often from a corner or a step, sometimes wider at one end, and comes with water loss you can't explain, is structural. In Rockwall we'd treat a directional crack as structural until somebody proves otherwise.
Saved, nearly always. Our fiberglass system is specifically the option for cracked and structurally distressed shells. That's what it was built for. If someone has told you the pool needs demolishing, get a second opinion before you spend that money.
Yes, Chandlers Landing, The Shores, Stone Creek, Caruth Lakes, Breezy Hill and the rest of Rockwall. The lakeside lots are where we see the most movement, so they're the ones we look at most carefully.
