Should you paint kitchen cabinets or replace them?

Keep sound boxes and a useful layout

Cabinet painting makes sense when boxes are square, dry, and secure and the layout works for the household. Worn color alone is not a reason to replace everything.

Replace when the problem is structural or functional

  • Water-swollen or failing cabinet boxes
  • A layout that blocks movement or appliance use
  • Insufficient storage that cannot be solved with inserts
  • Damaged doors or frames throughout the run

An in-person assessment should separate finish problems from box and layout problems before a recommendation is made.
